Roots of Wood Jewel date back to the early-80s. The owner and CEO, Kauko Raatiniemi , started the business alongside his main job by making bigger products like gnarl clocks. In 1995, the company hired its first worker and today Wood Jewel employs around 20 people throughout the year.

The main ingredients of the products are Finnish curly birch, reindeer horn and colored birch. The knives are especially designed for use with the material of the blade, the shape of the handle and the fit of the knife in the sheath.
